Point Dume
Originally constructed in the early 1960’s, "Point Dume Village" is an approximate 3.5-acre neighborhood retail center that had a dated and piece-meal appearance. The scope was to re-plan and re-vitalize the public spaces for better function and aesthetic appeal. Mike's plan was to use the region’s vernacular architecture and material palette – including Malibu tile, wrought iron and stone – inspired the Early California design. New paving, planting, lighting, furniture and signage were cohesively integrated and incorporated into the public spaces along with new site amenities such as a fire pit and tile fountains.
-
Landscape reminiscent of an Early California vernacular included citrus, bougainvillea, bird of paradise, yucca, agave, sea lavender and pride of madeira.
-
Fragrant plants such as rosemary, lavender, and geranium in large pots reflect the Mediterranean landscape that heavily influenced the California Coastal Community.
-
Also in the tradition of Mediterranean and California themes are numerous mature, specimen trees, such as Canary Island Palms, Mexican Fan Palms, Italian Cypress, Olive and Jacaranda.
